MICROBLADING
Free Microblading consult and touch up. Trust your eyebrows to Pam Dougall, with 20 years experience and a background in design.
Microblading is a semi permanent technique used to apply pigment to your eyebrows in a way that makes it look like you have perfect naturally full eyebrows day and night. It is performed by taking a small blade, placing pigment on the blade and with strokes placing that pigment on your skin. What makes Microblading so fantastic is that the procedure doesn't leave you with scars, isn't very painful and the end product looks so amazing. It's easy to see why microblading has quickly become a huge fashion trend in the US.
This technique leaves a semi permanent hairstroke that makes your eyebrows look PERFECT for up to 2 years. Unlike traditional tattooing, where color is tattooed in the shape of an eyebrow stencil, this is very detailed work where brow design and hair strokes are done by hand. The results are immediate and fabulous! Imagine waking up every day with perfect brows! Microblading is here to stay.
Originating in Europe and Asia, microblading is also know as eyebrow embroidery, microstroking and brow feathering. It has made its way to the West Coast and is now available in Stillwater, MN!
The process starts with the consultation where we will sit down with you and we discuss your expectations, lifestyle and taste in eyebrows. We pre shape your eyebrows with a pencil and work with you on what is best for you as the client. Do you wear makeup every day, never or just special occasions? What is your face shape? Do you keep your hair the same color? We will give you suggestions on what we feel looks best but also want you to love the shape before starting. These are YOUR brows and we want what makes you happiest.
This way you make sure that you LOVE your eyebrow shape before we start and it gives us an outline to work with so there are no surprises. No matter how good the microblading strokes are, without the perfect shape it won't give amazing results.
choose your microblading studio carefully
We want to help you wake up with perfect eyebrows each and every morning! Here at Poppy and Plum Skincare we absolutely love eyebrows, skin and anything related to a healthy lifestyle. If you aren't sure what Microblading is please read on, because we know you're going to love it. We fully understand the everyday struggle a woman goes through to get her brows to look perfect. We know all of the many brow mishaps, all of which are embarrassing, like having your brows smudge off. Or running for cover when it rains so your brows don’t wash off as the water hits your face. Or trying to keep your brows from sliding off when you’re sweating in hot, humid temperatures. No one should ever have to go through any of that again!
Not all brow designers are created equal! Microblading artist, Pam Dougall has a background in design before she began a career in skincare and facial tattooing. In 2001, Pam had her initial training from A Permanent Solution-California, renowned for their continuing education for nurses. Pam is also a licensed Advanced Esthetician and Esthetician Manager. Most recently she completed training in Microblading, Instrumentation and Color Theory through Premiere Pigments-Texas. She is a member of the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals and is licensed by the Mn Dept of Health and the Mn Dept of Cosmetology for Advanced Esthetics.
WHAT IS MICROBLADING?
The next level of brows, this new technique gives brows a clean crisp punctuated definition to the face. No smearing, no smudging, no powdered-on brows. This permanent cosmetics procedure can last for 2 years. This service is NOT a block of color tattooed in the shape of an eyebrow stencil, rather this is very detailed work where brow design and hair strokes are done by hand.
Microblading, also known as brow feathering, is the latest beauty trend for brows that is here to stay. Imagine waking up every day with perfect brows!
MICROBLADING IS JUST FOR WOMEN, RIGHT?
No - Microblading is for women AND men! More and more men are seeking out microblading, too. A well-groomed appearance is important to everyone, and microbladed brows can take years off the face for women and men alike. Scalp MicroPigmentation was developed as both a cosmetic procedure, for men and women suffering with all types of hair loss, and as a medical procedure to help conceal scars, burns, birthmarks, as well as the full spectrum of alopecia strains. SMP is a process of implanting pigment (tattooing the appearance of hair follicles) into the scalp to create the illusion of thicker, denser hair.
With no surgery, no cover-ups, no drugs and no significant maintenance, scalp micropigmentation fits easily into your daily routine. The results are so good, even you will find it hard to tell the difference. And your friends, family and co-workers? They never need to know unless you choose to tell them.
HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST?
Microblading is considered a semi-permanent brow procedure that can last about 18 months - 2 years, although we recommend touch-ups once every year for most people to keep brows looking as stunning as they were when first having them done. The pigments are designed to gently fade over time. Microblading is an art, not a science and client results will vary from person to person. It is very important that each client understands that we cannot guarantee how long the pigment will be retained in your skin. Retention depends on your skin type, texture, oiliness and aftercare.
WILL MY BROWS STILL REQUIRE TWEEZING OR WAXING?
Yes. If you are currently having eyebrow waxing and/or tinting, you may still want to continue that, which will be discussed with your technician. The eyebrows will continue to grow although maintenance will be much easier.
WILL I STILL NEED TO WEAR BROW MAKE-UP?
Only if you want to depending on your desired look. Microblading is meant to enhance your natural brows, creating fine hair like strokes. If you prefer a filled in look, you will still need make-up to achieve that.
HOW DO YOU MAKE THE PERFECT SHAPE?
Shaping is absolutely one of our strong suits. There are many different techniques in the industry but we have found the right combination to give you brows that are one of a kind and designed just for you! Most people start with brows that do not perfectly match each other. Our faces are never symmetrical. We begin drawing the shape by using a precise measuring instrument, digital photography, and lastly but most importantly the artistic eye of the technician, to design the best shape for you. Once you see it and give the green light to proceed, the numbing cream is applied over the shape we have drawn.
HOW DO YOU PICK OUT COLOR?
Choosing the best color is a matter of your preference and our experience. We make a recommendation based on your hair color but also taking into account your undertones. Are you a cool or warm tone? We are trained in color theory and so are better able to choose the best colors for your skin tone. The pigments that we use have been used in the industry for many years and so have stood the test of time.
DOES IT HURT?
Yes, there is discomfort with this procedure although a topical anesthetic is applied before starting and also throughout the procedure to help with discomfort. Some clients experience very little to no pain. Most people say it feels like pinching or tugging on the skin. There are also certain conditions that can affect pain threshold such as menstruation, stress, smoking and Fibromyalgia.
DOES MICROBLADING INTERFERE WITH THE NORMAL HAIR GROWTH?
No! Since we are not working at the follicular level, hair growth is not affected.
CAN MICROBLADING BE DONE ON EVERYONE?
Yes! Everyone is a candidate. Please take a moment to review the information below.
If any of the following conditions apply to you, a phone consultation is required before making an appointment.
An auto-immune disease.
Diabetes type 1 or 2.
Thyroid/Graves Disease.
Anemia.
History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring. (Raised scarring).
Pregnancy and nursing.
Liver disease.
Currently undergoing radiation or chemotherapy.
If you are being treated for acne. Also if you have irritated skin or psoriasis.
If you already have permanent makeup:
Our artist will determine whether or not we can work with you. Please take 3 photos; one straight on and one from each side, so we can see each tail of the eyebrow. Make sure the photos are makeup free, filter free and in natural daylight.
Also to consider:
Oily skin types and smokers may fade quicker and/or lose brow stroke definition (become blurred). A phone consultation may be desired for more information before booking an appointment.
HOW DO I PREPARE? BEFORE YOUR EYEBROW PROCEDURE:
Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils, vitamin E, niacin, or drink excessive alcohol 3 days before the procedure.
If possible discontinue prescription blood thinners 4 days prior to and after your procedure. This may wish to be discussed with your doctor.
Discontinue any vitamin A skin care products (Retin-A, retinols) close to the enhancement area at least two weeks prior to your procedure. We recommend NOT using these products over the brow area after you receive Microblading. It can cause fading and blurring of hair strokes.
Discontinue use of AHA (glycolic) and BHA (salicylic) skin care products close to the brow area at least one week prior to your procedure.
No deep chemical peels, laser treatments at least 6 weeks prior to procedure.
No deep chemical peels, laser treatments at least 6 weeks prior to procedure.
No laser, electrolysis, light chemical peels, skin pen and microdermabrasion procedures on or around the treatment area two weeks prior to procedure.
No Botox, Dysport or fillers in the procedure area four weeks prior.
• No eye makeup for one week following procedure.
• Consider not scheduling any social events for 1 week following the appointment.
• Limit the amount of caffeine you consume the morning of your appointment.
• If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you must wait at least one year before considering this procedure.
If you regularly get your eyebrows shaped, waxed, threaded or tinted, please do so at least three days prior to your appointment. And wait 2 weeks after the procedure.
• It is highly recommended that you avoid sun and tanning bed exposure for 30 days before and after your procedure. Please do not come for your appointment if you have a new sun burn as you will need to reschedule. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will pull the pigment with it.
If you have existing cosmetic tattooing, please contact us BEFORE booking your appointment for a phone consultation.
If you are drawing or penciling your brows in, you may want to come in with them drawn on the way that you usually do them.
HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I PLAN FOR THE PROCEDURE?
Typically your appointment time will be 1-1/2 hours. During that time we will:
Complete paperwork including a health questionnaire
Consult on shape and color
Take before photos
Measure and draw your perfect shape
With your final approval, we will start the anesthetic
Complete the procedure
Take after photos
Go over after care instructions
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE HEALING PROCESS?
AT COMPLETION OF THE FIRST TREATMENT - Your brows will be beautifully defined. You may think, “Why did I not do this sooner!”
DURING THE FIRST WEEK - The color of the pigment will soften gradually, and for some, the pigment may seem to disappear completely. Again, trust the process. Do not be alarmed if you see some color come off. Once the healing of the skin starts taking place over the first week, it may look like flaking or dry skin. This might give you the impression that the color is fading too quickly; however this is part of the healing process. While most people find the week following the procedure easy enough to deal with and are able to carry on with their normal activities, please plan accordingly. You may not want to plan any social events in the first week after your procedure. And it is important to protect the area from sun exposure and water. Workouts can resume after 3 day. Aftercare instructions will be provided at the time of your appointment.
AFTER THE FIRST WEEK - Normal activities can be resumed regarding facial cleansing and care. Makeup can be used on the brow area if desired. Sun exposure can cause quicker fading so sun screen is recommended. This is a time to enjoy your new brows and to think about your touch up appointment and how you feel about your new shape.
Please remember that while perfection is always our goal, it is nearly impossible for eyebrows to be perfect.
DOES EVERYONE NEED A TOUCH-UP?
Some may want a touch-up or perfecting appointment. At the time of your touch up appointment, we can fine tune the color and shape. The cost at this time is usually $100.

MICROBLADING AFTER CARE
For 7 days following the procedure:
* Apply A&D ointment sparingly, twice a day, using a clean cotton swab; not your fingertips.
* Do not rub or pick at any flaking or peeling skin. Allow it to flake off on its own. There should be absolutely no scrubbing, this can cause scarring.
* No cleansing creams or chemicals applied to the area. Do not expose treated area to full pressure of water in the shower.
* Do not soak treated area in bath, swimming pool or hot tub. Do not swim in fresh, salt or chlorinated pool water.
* Do not expose the treated area to the sun.
After 1 week
* You may resume your normal skin care routine and makeup application to the area.
* Use a total sun block AFTER the procedure area has healed (wait 1 week to apply sunscreen to prevent future fading of pigment color.)
Failure to follow post-treatment instructions may cause loss of pigment, discoloration or infection. Remember, colors appear brighter and more sharply defined immediately following the procedure. As the healing progresses, color will soften. Final results cannot be determined until healing is complete. The included touch-up procedure must be made between 4-6 weeks following the initial procedure. Additional fees will apply for touch-ups after 6 weeks following the procedure.
